Cool original Jeep Cherokee S (considered the first 2 door suv) with good suspension, but rotted quarters and rockers and not running at this time. New Rockers/Quarters included, but not installed. I'm thinking about parting it out, but may sell it complete. It was very cool and fun to drive, but I don't have the time to fix even after spending several thousand on new parts this year and will let it go at a considerable loss. Brand new tires on original slotted mags. Brakes are fine. The engine ran but the cam's distributor gear ate itself after the installation of a new HEI style distributor. The engine leaked a lot of oil, smoked a bit, etc.; so the new owner should plan on replacing or rebuild rather than just throw a new timing chain and gear in there.. Quadratrac and locking hubs are fine. Turbo 400Transmission was basically ok, but needed a spring on the dipstick to keep it from spouting fluid from time to time (don't know the reason for that was). Dana 44 axles with good bearings, links, balljoints etc. When I bought it, the fuel system was beyond repair so I installed a fuel cell, new lines, pump, Street Demon 625 carb and Edelbrock RPM airgap intake manifold, wires, plugs, and new alternator while I was at it. It was tuned and produced good power and sound and also picked it up 45 horsepower over stock. I'm thinking about pulling those parts separately and selling the engine as a builder. Make me an offer for it together or parts.

I'm reading where the Wagoneer two-door was technically earlier, and the Cherokee on the SJ platform has a couple of tweaks to distinguish it from the two-door wagoneer - though I'm not sure what all that entails other than different pillars/doors and roofline. Anyway, looking that up was certainly interesting, and opened me up to a chapter of Jeep I haven't read much on.

I do call BS on the "first luxury SUV" distinction at Wikipedia, though: '63 =/= '49. Even though the Tickford wagon didn't have *much* beyond leather seats, heat, extra trim and a soundproofed wholly new passenger compartment, and sold less than 700, it still counts.

Sucks that you have to sell it. I always liked the full-size Cherokees and Wagoneers.

Yeah, sucks, but it's going to take another $6k+ to finish it the way I'd want. The Volvo 850 wagon I picked up spoiled me and I need to get something comparable as a second daily driver now that my little girl is almost 2 and the wife is going back to work.

Are the wheels regular Chrysler 5 lug pattern?

Yeah, works in my book too. The 2 door waggy was earlier and sold well enough they did the Cherokee. Truthfully, I really miss my XJ Cherokee with nice Bilsteins and Addco front bar. Narrow super tight turning radius and yet stable on the highway at high speeds. Easy to get in and out of, cheap to operate.

6 bolt by 5.5 spacing. Cool wheels, but don't know what else they fit.

Wish you luck man. Shame that the Jeep won't work for you; SUVs of this vintage are always fun beaters or projects. If I were you, I'd be hard pressed not to replace with something similar although a bit more complete.

All of the full sized Jeeps rusted out around here due to the humidity and now they fetch a premium. Same story for old Blazers and Internationals.

Wish I could as it would be a short trailer ride to Akron...but I've already got 3 as it is and a project would probably get me in trouble. It's a beautiful looking Jeep though.

Yeah, let anyone know on the other forums etc. I'll try to post up more later. It's up on craigslist now too.
